Established in 2007 as the Business Assistance Fund in partnership with MBIA, the grant program has evolved significantly over the past 18 years. Today, the MCIG program stands as a cornerstone of Maryland’s innovation ecosystem, providing critical support at the commercialization tipping point for promising ventures. This evolution reflects our long-standing commitment to breaking down barriers and amplifying the success of Maryland’s entrepreneurs.

“The demand has been tremendous, and the quality of the ventures is strong,” said Hakim Dyer, MBIA’s Interim Executive Director. “I congratulate our Entrepreneurial Support Organization members for bringing forth innovators whose work exemplifies Maryland excellence.” TEDCO CEO Troy LeMaile-Stovall also emphasized the program’s impact, highlighting the promising future for Maryland’s innovation landscape and the continued growth we expect to see from these ventures.

The selection process for the MCIG program is highly competitive. Out of 41 applications received this cycle, a rigorous review ensured that only those companies with the greatest potential for impactful commercialization were chosen. The awardees are organized by their supporting Entrepreneurial Support Organizations, which have played a pivotal role in fostering Maryland’s entrepreneurial spirit. MBIA and TEDCO remain dedicated to nurturing Maryland’s innovation ecosystem. As these ventures embark on their commercialization journeys, the grants serve as a catalyst for growth, innovation, and economic development statewide.
